Electronic Device Recycling in 2023 The State of Hawai`i recently enacted Act 151 (2022), which mandates that "manufacturers must fully fund their recycling plan, including the collection, transportation, and recycling of all [specified] electronic devices in the State." These plans include recycling targets, collection services at least once per month in at least Kailua-Kona and Hilo, at no cost to device owners, starting in January 2023.
Hawai`i County Electronic Device Free Collection Events Households, businesses, government agencies and nonprofits can recycle their eligible electronic devices at these upcoming free collection events:

At Kona events, lead acid batteries, solar panels and newspaper are also collected. Mr. K's offers $0.10/lb for large batteries (chargers on top) and $0.05/lb for small batteries.

Certified Electronics Recyclers
Mr. K's works with end-destination recyclers that are certified by one or both of two accredited certification standards for electronics recognized by the EPA, which includes regular compliance audits by an independent, accredited, third-party auditor:
Data erasure using software tested and approved by NIST (National Institute of Software and Technology)
Degaussing, which uses a magnetic field to erase data
Mr. K's can provide a certificate of data destruction for data wipes for a fee.
Reuse
Mr. K's may refurbish and/or resell items or parts as appropriate and only after destruction of prior data. Mr. K's is not be held responsible for any loss or breach of data.
E-Waste Pick-up Service
Transport Fee: $1.65 per pound (a minimum fee may apply depending on the location)
Pick-up service available anywhere on the Big Island, Sundays to Fridays.
E-waste for pick up should be palletized (4-ft. or smaller) and shrink-wrapped.
